Eustis Estate

Bed Chamber Isola Bella

British author and art critic John Ruskin was an intellectual giant whose reputation spanned decades and continents. His work influenced such varied figures as Tolstoy, Proust, Gandhi, and Frank Lloyd Wright and his writings changed the course of art and architecture. As an executor of the estate of the artist J. M. W. Turner, Ruskin cleaned, framed, and catalogued thousands of Turner’s watercolors that were left to the National Gallery. This is a reproduction from Historic New England’s collection of Ruskin’s copy of one of Turner’s views of Isola Bella on Lake Maggiori in northern Italy.
