Eustis Estate
Hall Sgabello (Hall chair)
Carved chairs like this were based on Italian Renaissance models and were enormously popular in the second-half of the nineteenth-century. Reproductions, usually in multiples, were used to populate grand entrance halls in Europe and America. This set of four are part of the original furnishing of the Eustis Estate. The chairs are as uncomfortable as they look and were designed to impress rather than to provide seating.
