Lolling Chair

Attributed to Frederick Poole (1849-1930); Gloucester, Massachusetts; 1915—20; Maple, toile de Jouy upholstery; Gift of William F. A. Stride, 1986.1092.2.

The lolling chair Sleeper commissioned for Beauport’s Octagon Room follows no historical model; rather, its unusual ogee-arched crest is designed to rhyme with the room’s other profiles.
