Eustis Estate
Parlor Curtains
This pattern, known simply as “Bird,” was created in 1878 by the English designer William Morris for use in his own home in the north of London, Kelmscott House, where it was hung on the walls in the drawing room. The heavy wool fabric was produced in three colorways by Morris & Company at Merton Abby beginning in 1881. While it was never used by the Eustis family, Morris designs like this were popular in New England when the house was designed and furnished.
