Charwoman

Richard Blake

Bronze sculpture of a sleeping woman of color doubled over and resting on her leg. Sculpture is outside with green meadow in the background.

In my “Third World Women” series, I strive to combine the abstraction of the 20th century with an organic, lyrical rhythm inherent in the human form. I characterize the series as depicting the people who most typify the social and economic conditions associated with the underprivileged, regardless of geography. These conditions can be found in the United States as well as the most remote regions of the world.
